# On Earthquake

AI is not another technology trend. It's a force rewriting the operating system of society — and most people are still polishing skills built for the previous world. Boaz's case: the advantage belongs not to those with the right answers, but to those with the highest learning rate and the courage to move while the ground is shaking.

The Short Version

### What this edition is about

Boaz's read on AI is that it isn't a trend to evaluate but a change in the operating system underneath everything else — and that most capable people are responding by polishing skills calibrated to the previous version.

The uncomfortable implication is that expertise is depreciating faster than it's being replaced. The durable advantage shifts from having the right answers to having the highest learning rate, which is a different muscle and an uncomfortable one for people used to being the expert in the room.

The second requirement is nerve: moving while the ground is still shaking, before the new rules have settled enough to be taught.

Key Takeaways

- AI is an operating-system change, not another tool to evaluate.
- Existing expertise is depreciating faster than most people are rebuilding it.
- Learning rate is now a more durable advantage than accumulated answers.
- The second requirement is nerve — acting before the rules settle.

Who This Is For

Leaders whose competitive advantage was built on expertise that's now depreciating.

Questions

## On this edition

### How should leaders respond to AI disruption?

Optimise for learning rate rather than answers. The people who win the next stretch aren't the ones who called it correctly — they're the ones who rebuild their understanding fastest and act while conditions are still unclear. That's uncomfortable if your authority was built on already knowing.

### Why is AI different from previous technology shifts?

Because it changes the operating system rather than adding an application. Earlier shifts asked you to adopt a tool. This one revises what the work is, who does it, and what expertise is worth — which is why polishing your existing skill set can feel productive and still leave you behind.
