# On Accidents

An accident is life removing the ground. What separates top performers isn't that fewer things go wrong — it's how quickly they return to useful action. Boaz's framework: find your humor, find your compassion, take the next move. And build the accident kit before you need it.

The Short Version

### What this edition is about

An accident is the moment the ground disappears without warning. Boaz's observation, from decades of building and rebuilding businesses, is that top performers do not experience fewer of these. They experience the same volume of chaos — they simply spend less time in the interval between impact and useful action.

The framework has three moves. Find your humor, because it restores perspective faster than analysis. Find your compassion, for yourself and for whoever else is in the wreck. Then take the next action, however small, because motion is what ends the freeze.

The last point is the practical one: build the accident kit before you need it. Decide now who you call, what you stop, and what you protect, so the plan isn't being invented while the ground is still moving.

Key Takeaways

- Top performers don't avoid accidents — they shorten the gap between impact and useful action.
- Humor restores perspective faster than analysis does.
- Compassion — for yourself and others in the wreck — keeps the response from becoming a second crisis.
- Build the accident kit in advance: who you call, what you stop, what you protect.

Who This Is For

Owners and leaders who will, eventually, have a very bad week.

Questions

## On this edition

### How do you recover quickly from an unexpected setback?

Shorten the freeze. Find your humor to get perspective back, find compassion so you're not fighting yourself on top of the problem, then take the next action even if it's small. Momentum is what ends the paralysis — analysis while frozen just keeps you frozen longer.

### What is an accident kit?

It's the set of decisions you make before a crisis: who you call first, what you shut down, what you protect at all costs, and what can wait. Deciding those things in calm conditions means that when the ground moves, you're executing a plan instead of inventing one.
